experience the power of God that raised Christ from the dead,
transform any situation into an opportunity to praise and glorify God,
confidently study the Scriptures in a style that makes sense for you and is enjoyable,
...then you need to keep reading!
In today's culture of discord, grumbling, and anxiety, it is crucial that we stand firm in the Lord, rejoicing in his power and peace, and shine as lights in a crooked and twisted generation!
According to Ed Stetzer, president of LifeWay Research,
"You simply won't grow if you don't know God and spend time in God's Word.
Bible engagement has an impact in just about every area of spiritual growth."
This new course provides the framework you need to draw out the life-giving truth and grace in Paul's moving letter to the church at Philippi.
In Philippians, Paul explains exactly how to experience the power of God that raised Christ from the dead! And he teaches us how to transform any situation into an opportunity to praise and glorify God.
But, for many, Paul can be a challenge to read an understand, much less apply to our 21st century lives.
So, in this study I'm going to walk you verse by verse through his letter. And in the process, not only will I help you understand and apply to your own life Paul's counsel to the believers in Philippi, but I'll also equip you to confidently study other portions of Scripture on your own in a style that makes sense and is enjoyable to you.
WHAT TO EXPECT
We will study the entire book of Philippians in six sessions. Group sessions will begin Tuesday, April 18, 2017 and wrap up May 23, 2017.
We will meet in the Fellowship Hall of Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown Texas. It is located at 10th and Main. The morning group will meet from 9 :30 am - 11 am. The evening sessions will be 6:30 - 8:00 pm.
Don’t worry if you have schedule conflicts that will cause you to miss one or two sessions. I’ll record each session and place it in the private online member site. You can login and listen on your computer or download the mp3 file and listen on your smartphone or ipod. Only registered participants in the class will have access to the recordings.
Our primary text will be our Bible! We have a three-part primary goal:
1) Understand what the text of Philippians says.
2) Interpret the meaning of the message.
3) Apply what we’ve learned about God so it impacts how we relate to God, others and ourselves.
I've created a printed workbook that I will distribute at our first session. This will provide you structure for taking notes as you study. In most Bible studies, the author presents information with stories and illustrations that conveys their interpretation of the Scripture. However, I take a different approach. I want you to have the joy of discovering the content, meaning, and application of the Scripture.
FREE CHILD CARE! Since this is a partnership with my home church, Main Street Baptist Church, we are able to offer child care to those participants who pre-register by April 11, 2017. To request child care, please complete the child care request form at the bottom of this page.
Choose Your Bible Study Style
Everyone prefers various Bible study methods and styles. I've designed your workbook to offer you choices for your homework.
Are you are crunched for time but still want spiritual meat, then you'll look for the Pre-Assembled icon. I will give you focused concepts and cross-references and help you see the major themes. Think Priscilla Shirer homework just without all the extra commentary and stories.
If this study approach were a bookshelf, it would be a pre-assembled model that only needs a coat of paint or stain.
If you want to dig in to the Word but not do much detailed annotation of the text, you'll want to look for the Some Assembly Required icon. These homework assignments will be more along the lines of what you would find in a Jen Wilken study.
Using our bookcase metaphor, this would be an IKEA piece that provides the pieces but requires you to assemble them yourself.
If you tend to prefer a more intensive start-from-scratch style involving marking up your text with lots of color-coded symbols, chose the homework prompts marked with the DIY icon. I'm certainly no Kay Arthur, but if you like her style of homework, these assignments will be right up your alley.
Think of this method as building a custom bookcase from the raw materials you pick up at the home improvement store and put together in your woodworking shop.
Feel free to mix and match or create your own unique take on the suggested homework exercises. It's going to be fun and exciting to come together in our group discussions and compare our discoveries and insights.
IT IS MY PRAYER THAT YOUR LOVE MAY ABOUND MORE AND MORE
This was the apostle Paul's prayer for his friends and fellow believers in Philippi. I earnestly pray it over you now. I am praying, and invite you to join me in praying, that our time together in the Scripture will be fruitful and that we may know Jesus and the power of His resurrection more and more!
FOUNDER OF MAKING IT REAL MINISTRIES
In case we haven't met, I thought you might like to know a bit about your group leader.
I'm Laura Naiser, author of Remaining in the Vine: Cultivating an Intimate Relationship with Jesus in an Insanely Busy and Superficial World. I've spent spent more than 20 years passionately equipping others to see how God's truth and grace intersect with their real lives. I've taught Bible studies of various types both in my former capacity as Director of Discipling Ministries at a 4,500 member church and my current status as a member of my local church and via Making It Real Ministries.
WHAT PAST PARTICIPANTS HAVE SAID ABOUT STUDYING WITH ME
I would immediately join any future Bible class Laura offers...she was welcoming, relaxed, and obviously knowledgeable with a friendly listening style as group members shared insights and questions.
Laura’s transparent style invites participants to closely examine the contents of their spiritual basket and compare it to fresh insights from God’s Word. She leads her classes on a journey that is challenging, exciting, and personal.
The ability to listen to replays of the class discussions was terrific. It cut out the stress of having to miss a class.
The group sessions allowed for meaningful discussion. Laura kept us on target so we were able to complete a full chapter each time we met. Yet she also encouraged group members to share their input. Every week the discussion was excellent, and I learned so much!
But that's not all... (Sorry, couldn't help myself...)
